Life Story
My name is LJ Walker and I joined the staff of First Baptist Church in August of 2008. I was born and raised in Russellville, AR, and graduated college from Oklahoma Baptist University in 2004 with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance/Accounting. Upon graduation I obtained my license as a CPA. In my four years prior to returning to Russellville, I worked in Houston, TX, as an auditor (KPMG LLP) and as an accounting supervisor (Southwestern Energy Company). My wife, Bethany, was raised primarily in Russellville, AR. She also attended Oklahoma Baptist University and graduated in 2003 with a Bachelors of Science with an emphasis in Exercise Science. In 2007, she completed a Masters of Science as a Physician Assistant from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. She currently works as a Physician Assistant at Millard-Henry Clinic in Russellville. We have two sons, Carson, born August 3, 2009, and Weston, born June 13, 2013, and we recently added a beautiful daughter, Callie, to the mix. She was born September 4, 2015.
Salvation Experience: After years of doubting my salvation, I committed my life to Christ at a Dare2Share conference at FBC. At the age of 17, I realized that my good works or knowledge of the Bible would not get me to Heaven. I realized that the shed blood of Jesus was the only payment that would satisfy the debt of my sins, and once I had been purchased by his blood, nothing could separate me from Him. This truth has freed me so that I do not constantly have to question my salvation. This established a spiritual marker in my life so that I could “move on to maturity” and more fervently follow the plans He laid out for me.
What is your favorite food? Seafood (Shrimp boil)
What do you like to do in your spare time? Golf, running, triathlons
What is your favorite thing about church ministry? FBC is one big family. They take care of one another and push one another to become more like Jesus. The focus is eternal, not temporal.
